Have you ever wondered what a super bloom is and why it occurs?
Flowers in the desert bloom, set seed, lie dormant, and bloom again the year after. This is the life of annual plants. Super blooms occur with the precise combination of rainfall, temperature, and wind. In addition to the familiar flowers blooming, the desert is also blanketed by a mélange of rare wildflower blooms.
The last recorded super bloom phenomena occurred in 1998, 2005, and 2016.
Last year, the colossal floral show put on by California's deserts were quite the attraction for botanists, photographers, and hikers alike. It was said to be the bloom of the decade.
You won't regret making a trip out to view the rolling seas of golden California Poppies, fiery hot Desert Paintbrushes, and the show stopping colbalt-blue Inyo Lupines.
Don't miss the spectacular show this spring!
Happy Hiking :)
